BIG Trip 2016

GRIFFITH-HAY-ROBINVALE VIC

Sunday 7th - Tuesday 9th June

After consulting Google maps, Lorraine choose the scenic route to Hay. Oops...

Shortcut to Hay

In a moment of madness, we decided to leave the bitumen and push on (but we knew we couldn't stop, and couldn't turn around!). Progressing ever so carefully at about 30kmh, we had the occasional slip slide, and on at least one occasion the "traction" warning light came on (though I didn't tell Lorraine about that till we reached the bitumen again). Then a glimpse of bitumen and a sigh of relief from Lorraine. "Nah", I said, "I think the bitumen is because of the curves here, otherwise it would be too dangerous". Unfortunately, I was right.

After 13km, and about 25 minutes later, we reached solid road again, and had a good laugh about our adventure later that night. But I don't think we would do that again.

Early afternoon we reached the Robinvale Riverside Caravan Park - and what a fantastic spot. We opted for a riverside site and our own delivery of firewood. Excellent, couldn't be happier.

YOUNG-GRIFFITH NSW

Saturday 5th June

Enroute we stopped and walked the main street of Temora. What a delightful town, beautiful restored early 1900's house, and a great choice of cafes. We visited an original-style milkbar, the Waratah Cafe, and indulged in coffee with hot potato scallops and pineapple fritter for morring tea (we better not do that too often!).

. We had a pleasant, but rather uneventful stay in Griffith. I guess we expected more.

YOUNG NSW

Friday 4th June 2016

Last night we had a magnificent meal at Cafe Le Jour - the only 'real' restaurant in Young, and it would stand up against some of the best that Sydney has to offer. Fantastic.

But today is plumber day! And yes, we have a faulty tempering valve. And yes, it is a specialty type which the plumber is not able to replace, even if he could get out from its cosy corner within the cabinetry. But yes, we can bypass it. And yes, he has the fittings needed.

Yay, we have a fix and the hotwater is working again.

Back on the road tomorrow with a leisurely drive to Griffith. Oh, and we better try to fix that faulty tyre pressure monitor.

CARCOAR DAM-YOUNG

Thursday 3rd June 2016

Enroute via Cowra we visited the Japanese Gardens (which we last visited in 1980). Stage 2 has long since been completed and it was just magnificent - the autumn colours really quite amazing.

We phoned ahead to book a site at the Young Tourist Caravan Park - Garry and Karen were very helpful, and we got a recommendation for a local plumber who has been booked for tomorrow morning,

SYDNEY-CARCOAR DAM

Wednesday 2nd June 2016

After a pleasant stay overnight in Sydney catching up with family, we headed off!

A couple of hiccups though - no flow from any hot water taps (I don't mean the water was cold - there wasn't any water). After googling and a phone call to Paradise Motorhomes, the likely suspect is a failed or clogged tempering valve. Now to find a plumber who can replace it.

The other hiccup was I needed to replace a battery on a tyre pressure - anticipating that, I had brought spare batteries. After replacing it, the monitor doesn't work at all now. Oh well.

We had a pleasant stop at the Tomah Botanical Gardens enroute.
